Community & Society Events

A comprehensive programme of events is provided by the Community & Society Quality and Advisory teams.

We support the following subject areas:

Who delivers the events?

The events are delivered by the Quality and Advisory teams who hold considerable expertise and experience in qualification delivery and associated work contexts. Team members, such as our Community & Society advisers, usually facilitate networks and present briefings and quality improvement events. On occasion our consultants, who are also qualification experts, may also be used.

All our upcoming events are detailed in the events section of this site.

Our events portfolio

Our events portfolio encompasses:

Qualification launches/briefings
As revised and new qualifications become available, launches/briefings are arranged to inform centres about the implementation of new or revised qualifications.

Networks
Once qualifications are launched, regional and national networks for specific qualification groups are made available. These provide centres with opportunities to raise queries, exchange ideas on best practice and standardise assessment.

Surgeries
As an alternative to networks, some Community & Society Advisers run surgeries where individual centre representatives may seek one to one support.

Quality Improvement (QI) events
The Community & Society team offers a portfolio of events that cover different aspects of qualification delivery. Most of these have been developed in response to feedback from external verifiers, regulators and centres. The events address aspects of qualification delivery requiring additional support to ensure confident and safe implementation.

Here's just a sample of areas covered in our QI events:

  • Expert Witness induction (N/SVQ)
  • Internal Verification sampling strategies and plans (N/SVQ)
  • Reflective practice
  • QTLS support events
  • Developing a framework for the assessment of theory in NVQs (new for 2009!)

Centre Development Unit (CDU)

The Centre Development Unit consists of a consultancy team, which assists centres in identifying their training and development needs, and a training team that provides negotiated and customised development programmes. These could involve induction training for candidates, assessors, internal verifiers, expert witnesses and quality assurance co-ordinators.

Most often this service is used either by new centres, wanting to 'kick start' their implementation of qualification delivery, or by existing centres concerned with improving their performance.

Where are the events held?

The events are held in our City & Guilds regional and national offices. City & Guilds has nine regional offices and national offices in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. You can locate your local office by going to the nations and regions section.

It is possible for us to come to your centre to deliver an event in-house. This is particularly useful if there are specific areas of qualification delivery which need support and you have sufficient numbers of staff who would benefit from an in-house event.

How do I book a place?

Each year the Community & Society team offers a programme of events which are advertised in the events section of this site, our qualification web pages and through our monthly e-newsletter. Letters of invitation are also sent out to assessment centre contacts.

Places must be reserved by completing the booking form attached to the letter of invitation or downloadable form on our events page. In all instances you will receive a confirmation of your booking by email. It’s important to book your place early as all events fill up quickly!

Event costs

Networks and surgeries are free of charge. Quality Improvement events (including briefings and workshops) are charged for. The associated cost will be clearly displayed on the events page and on letters of invitation.

The cost of an in-house event is dependent on group size and will be negotiated with centres on a one to one basis.

Event materials

Delegates who have attended an event may request presentation and workshop materials by emailing our dedicated team at chcqimat@cityandguilds.com.

Record of attendance

All delegates who attend events will be provided with a City & Guilds record of attendance certificate which, where appropriate, may be used as evidence of individuals’ continuous professional development.
